Ok, I’m sorry if this has been asked before. I have little ones and I feel strangled by organic. I am in line with you guys on the GMO issue, but I would like to know how to buy fruits/greens that are not doused in pesticides. I don’t, so I need to resort to organic. Are there other ways? Are there other labels that are not as politicized but give me the guarantees I need? IPA? Thanks!!
Antonella,
Thanks so much for the question! This is certainly something that many moms worry about, especially with younger kids. We obviously all want to feed our families food that is nutritious and healthy, as well as safe. I have some really good news though – whether you buy organic or non-organic food, there’s nothing to worry about! Those of us living in “first world” countries are so lucky because we have access to some of the largest and most abundant supplies of safe food ever in history! As a kid that grew up eating strawberries right off the plant, it makes me sad to hear that someone – especially a mom! – is concerned about feeding her children from that food supply. Hopefully, my response here can ease your worries and allow you to feel confident when purchasing food for you family – organic or not!

So there is no effect of consuming foods grown inorganically. What about animal products?

I’m not sure if “inorganically” is really the right phrase, but I got what you mean. As for animal products, I can’t imagine why that would be any different. I’m not as familiar with organic certification for farm animals, but I know it means the animals have to eat only organic feed. I know of no study or data suggesting that conventional animals have any type of effect on us as compared to organic animals.
This isn’t something I wrote, but I think it’s a good explanation: http://fitnessreloaded.com/organic-milk-vs-regular-milk/
