It’s our farm dog’s birthday today!
If you recall, we adopted Mischa in October. She’s been growing up farm dog ever since and loving it.
Mischa loves taking walks down the farm lane to the back of our property. It’s a great opportunity for her to stretch her legs and get all of that rambunctious puppy energy out. The walk itself is about a mile long (there and back), so she usually needs a nap when we get back. She’s curious about the corn growing on either side of the lane, especially now that it is getting high enough that she can “hide” in it.
By far, her absolutely favorite feature on the farm is our old irrigation pond, especially with warm summer weather. The edges are quite shallow, so she can still stand while splashing around. Mischa hasn’t quite mastered swimming yet, but I’m sure that won’t be far off. Of course, once she comes out covered in mud and muck she enjoys sitting in a lounge chair with one of her favorite humans. Unfortunately for her, she still hasn’t figured out that a trip in the pond means she has to get hosed off before coming in the house.
Surprisingly, Mischa is not too keen on taking rides. She tolerates it, but it is pretty evident by her face that she’s not all that interested. She’d rather be chasing her ball on the lawn, exploring around the barns, or rolling down the hills.
My favorite part of having puppies is watching their personality develop as they have boundless curiosity for the world around them. Mischa’s personality is unlike any other farm dog we’ve had! She’s sassy (perhaps a more fitting name for her), stubborn, curious, and absolutely goofy. She brings a lot of laughter to our family and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
Happy Birthday, Mischa!
