The Truth About Monsanto’s New Sweet Corn

June 14, 2012

Today, I get the chance to respond and, hopefully, debunk one of these stories. Monsanto, who is famously known for … [Read more...]

Do You Consume “Kind” Foods?

May 31, 2012

Apparently, eating organic is not "kind" enough -- we must go farther! That's why Stephanie Dohar and Greg Litus decided it was high time they just go out and farm for themselves! The Farmer's Daughter

"Stressed" college students trying to combat climate change are pushing their schools to ban pesticides, especially herbicides. These youngsters spend their free time on campus pulling weeds instead of...well, all the stuff they should be doing to enjoy college. Little do they know, their pursuit of ending pesticide use will actually do more harm than good to our environment. This article has all the science, snark, and flavor that makes me a happy reader.

Managing weeds isn’t just about making our fields look pretty! Weeds are detrimental because they compete with our crops for limited resources. If farmers didn’t manage weed presence, the weeds would eventually get so big that they choke out the planted crops. That means our efforts, inputs, and natural resources are wasted.

The controversy surrounding activists suing the EPA for not conducting biological evaluations under the Endangered Species Act is a bit difficult to understand. (Heck, that sentence was a bit difficult to understand.) So in my latest AGDAILY column, I've tried to distill the information and present it in a more palatable form.

The Poultry Production Inspection Act was signed into law in 1957 by President Dwight Eisenhower. It requires the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service to routinely inspect chicken-processing facilities, ensure sanitary conditions in the facilities, and that the meat processed is fit for human consumption.

It's all part of agriculture's ability to deliver safe, nutritious, and abundant food from the farm to your plate.

Birthdays post-cancer are a little weird. On one hand, I'm so grateful that I was blessed with another year. On the other, it feels like time is absolutely flying--how has that much time passed already? And you never know what you're rushing towards: a comfortable place where you're confident the cancer is gone forever, or your next diagnosis.

But I'm going to put those thoughts away and focus on the time I do have right here, right now. Because really, that's all any of us have. 🥂
