As I’ve said countless times, The Humane Society of the United is not connected with local animal shelters, despite the barrage of deceptive late night advertising. In fact, while those television commercials show lots of sad-faced cats and dogs, HSUS gives less than 1% of its annual budget toward helping animals.
Rather, the organization’s real focus is doing whatever it can to end animal agriculture.
A local pet shelter in Ohio is sick and tired of the mistake and has changed their name to avoid confusion. It was reported:
A large number of area residents have had the mistaken idea that The Humane Society Serving Logan County is a county government entity and was funded entirely by the county. Further, the name also led some residents to think the organization was affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States. The THSSLC Board of Directors decided that a name change was necessary to overcome these misconceptions.

The local shelter will now be known as the Top of Ohio Pet Shelter.
Good move on their part and congrats on the name change!

It's funny you mention that because in Canada all our animal shelters are "human societies" and for the life of me I had no idea what the heck HSUS was and why they were so bad!
