The Many Hats of Farmers

January 15, 2018

Today Mischa is rocking a hat from our friends at Dirt to Dinner for #NationalHatDay (Sorry for the blurry photo. Like me, she’s not crazy about wearing hats and, unlike me, tried to eat this one!)

I wear a lot of different “hats” as I go through my week. Lawyer. Influencer. Daughter. Sister. Fur mom. Agvocate. Friend. Co-worker. Writer. Farmers’ daughter.

I think most of us find ourselves wearing a variety of hats. We all fill a lot of different roles for a lot of different people on a regular basis.

Farmers wear a lot of different hats, too. Botanist. Meteorologist. Vet. Mechanic. Groomer. Truck driver. Economist. Showman. Engineer. Agronomist. Scientist. Business manager. Nutritionist. Sales person. Chemical applicator. Landowner. Entrepreneur. Marketer. Farmer.

It takes a little bit more than a pair of overalls and a pitchfork to do this job. We get a lot of different things thrown at us on the farm on any given day. We adapt, figure it out, and keep going. We’re always learning, and always growing. It can be a challenge, but also rewarding.
