LEGO Responds to My Inquiry…Again

Earlier this year I shared my exchange with LEGO company about an organic garden set it will debut this spring. (You can read the details here.) I originally sent a nice email explaining to the company why I was disappointed with the way they named the new set, while affirming that it’s important for children to learn where their food comes from.

I received a generic response back that didn’t really address my comments. So I replied pointing that out. I never heard anything further, and I thought the conversation was over.

But then I received this response:

Dear Amanda,

Thanks for reaching out to us about the use of the word ‘organic’ in our new LEGO Friends farm-themed set.

Our mission is to inspire the builders of tomorrow, and like you, we think it’s important for them to explore how different types of food are grown. 

We have other LEGO sets featuring farms, animals and food that you might enjoy with your community. Our 603 Barn and Farm Animals set, for instance, is currently on backorder but will be available next month. We also have a few smaller sets featuring farming vehicles.

We appreciate you sharing your feedback with us as someone who is a part of a farming family. We’ll share your thoughts with the right people here.

I’ll admit, that’s better. It still doesn’t address my concerns about the organic garden, or what message it might send to little players. But it acknowledges my concern and I can appreciate that. Will it sway any decision makers at LEGO? Maybe not. Yet I’m glad I said something. It was little effort to at least plant a seed.
