Soybeans? Check.
We are (slowly) moving along. We have (finally) completed soybeans and we’re just trying to finish up with corn now. I’m told we currently have about 410 acres left before harvest 13 will be in the bag.
I wanted to show you something I realized might not have been very clear before. I did a whole post about how the corn goes from the semi-truck into the granary, but how does it get from the combine into the truck?
The combine actually has what is called an auger. When the combine gets full, the corn is shuffled through the auger and we dump it into the gravity wagon. Our gravity wagon has another auger that then puts the corn into the semi-truck.

From the combine to the gravity wagon |
We usually dump the combine into the wagon because the wagon is lighter than the semi-trucks and doesn’t compact the soil as much, which is nice when we’re in the middle of the field. It’s also just handy to have some extra storage out there.
Of course, we also dump right from the combine into the semi-truck. It usually just depends on how full the trucks are and how far into a field we are.

The big arm sticking out is the auger that moves the corn from the combine to the semi-truck. |
