Sometimes the myths and accusations lobbed at modern agriculture can be hard to keep up with on a regular basis. For people that are interested in learning more, it can be hard to shift through volumes of information online, especially when it all seems to contradict.
World Food Unlimited: Producing Abundant, Safe Food, Sustainably, Using Modern Agricultural Technologies seeks to cut through the mess and get right to the facts.
Written by Jack DeWitt, the book covers a range of topics from pesticides to GMOs and animal agriculture. Jack’s writing is easy to understand meant to help readers grasp more complex scientific concepts. It comes with a good mix of personal stories and practical information about modern agriculture and the problems we face.
Oh, and Jack also managed to fit in a quote from yours truly.
Jack has been a farmer for over 50 years. Born in 1936, Jack earned a Bachelor of Scienice in Agriculture from the University of Idaho, and later his Master of Science degree in Agronomy from Washington State University. He also worked as an agronomist for Lamb-Weston , Inc. Now in his 80’s, Jack decided it was time to tell the world his story and share his knowledge on agriculture.
Best thing about this book? You can trust it. Not only does Jack provide citations throughout the book, it was also peer-reviewed. Four agricultural scientists took a look at Jack’s work, including a soil scientist, a botanist/plant pathologist, a pesticide research leader, and a famous plant breeder. That means you can feel confident in Jack’s arguments and look into them more if you’re interested.
Jack has been so kind to offer free copies of his books to some of my readers. I’m so excited to get these into your hands, because it offers such a great resource for anyone that wants to learn more about agriculture.
Jack has a stipulation though – he wants copies of these books to get into the hands of people that need them most. That is, the people that are skeptical about modern agricultural practices, the people that aren’t sure about some of the food claims out there, and the people that want to feel good about the food they buy. I want to make sure these books get into the hands of people that support modern agriculture and want to arm themselves with more information for those important conversations with consumers.
