Anti-GMO Leader Calls On Followers to Murder GMO Supporters

August 4, 2014

Someone needed to tell Mike Adams to
keep calm!

As this particular story develops, it creeps me out more and more.

If you’ve never heard of Natural News, consider yourself lucky. While I won’t post a link (trust me, it isn’t hard to find if you really want to), just imagine an entire website full of “news” stories that are a cross between a Food Babe blackmail campaign and a Dr. Oz pseudo-science episode. Yeah, it’s pretty bad.

The founder of the website, Mike Adams is notorious for posting anti-GMO quackery, along side all of his other “natural” tales. The taint is fairly obvious if you take a perusal around the website (but you probably shouldn’t – do we really want to give his site more traffic?). No doubt your anti-GMO friends have probably linked to his site as some type of authority. Last week however, Adams took a huge leap over the line and went way too far.

Mike Adams called for the murder of all public GMO supporters.

In one of his latest pieces, Adams compared GMO supporters to the Nazis following Hitler in Germany. He compared the push for biotechnology as a sort of new Holocaust. It starts out like this (thanks to Keith Kloor’s article for these quotes and his reporting of this story):

(NaturalNews) Monsanto is widely recognized as the most hated and most evil corporation on the planet. Even so, several internet-based media websites are now marching to Monsanto’s orders, promoting GMOs and pursuing defamatory character assassination tactics against anyone who opposes GMOs, hoping to silence their important voices.

These Monsanto collaborator sites tend to be “leftist” publications but also include at least one prominent business and finance publisher on the political right. All of them are Monsanto collaborators who have signed on to accelerate heinous crimes being committed against humanity under the false promise of “feeding the world” with toxic GMOs.

Sounds like typical anti-GMO blabbing; right? Certainly, labeling everyone that supports biotechnology as a Monsanto hack is an old, tired argument. (No, I am not paid by Monsanto.) But then Adams crosses the line. He gets to his point and explains what should happen to those so-called Monsanto collaborators:

Interestingly, just yesterday German President Joachim Gauck celebrated the lives of those brave Nazi officers who attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944. Their attempted Wolf’s Lair bombing failed, but it was an honorable attempt to rid the world of tremendous evil by killing one of the people responsible for it.

This official ceremony sends a message to the world, and that official message from the nation of Germany to the rest of the world says that it is the moral right — and even the obligation — of human beings everywhere to actively plan and carry out the killing of those engaged in heinous crimes against humanity.

(Emphasis in original article by Adams.) Adams actually advocated for the mass murder of  so-labeled “Monsanto Collaborators” as a moral right and obligation. Apparently, Adams has lost his entire grip on reality. (By the way, any surprise that Dr. Oz had this guy on his show recently?!)

Look, eco-terrorism happens and it has happened for a long time. Animal rights activists have blown up labs where testing on animals was taking place. PETA members have thrown red paint (meant to symbolize blood) on models wearing real fur. Anti-GMO radicals have ripped out fields because they contain biotech crops.

But this is something different – this advocates killing other human beings, not just destroying crops, objects, or buildings. It is not something we should condone or take lightly. In today’s politically charged and divsive atmosphere, who knows what nut job will take this call to action seriously and resort to violence.

Amazingly, Adams wasn’t quite done yet. The next day he updated the post and cited a link to a website that specifically named scientists, journalists, and publishers that he considered “Monsanto collaborators.” (The website, which you can find here, has apparently been taken down.) Adams claimed that the website was not put up by him, but analysis by Genetic Literacy Project has recently concluded that both sites were created by Adams. In a pathetic attempt at changing the topic, Adams claimed biotech companies paid for and hosted the collaborators website to discredit him.

Now, the FBI is involved  and reportedly investigating this incident. I hope that is true and I hope they are taking these threats seriously. I have no idea which names ended up on that website, but I can say for sure that threats of assassinations and murder are not acceptable and they cannot be allowed to continue unchecked.

The discussion surrounding food can get heated and we are all passionate about it. You’ll never find me suggesting we shouldn’t be passionate about it. I try to be passionate in each and every blog post. However, that never means that we should resort to violence. I hope to see just as many anti-GMO protesters decrying this type of behavior as I do pro-GMO sources doing it.

I hope the FBI is on this. And he should be arrested for threatening people. This needs to stop.

The Farmer's Daughter

Green soybeans as far as the eye can see. I took this photo over the weekend. These beans should be turning yellow and drying for harvest. So why aren't they? Because...the spring drought.Seeds need water to germinate. But after we planted we didn't have rain for weeks. So those seeds just sat in the dirt and never sprouted. Then, finally, it rained. And the tiny plants started popping up.The problem? It was several weeks too late for planting. The question is whether they'll be ready to harvest before the snow flies. We have shorter seasons in Michigan, so it'll be close.

The FDA's draft guidance on the milk label is a decent compromise on which the nutritional differences with actual milk must be clearly stated.

I visited one of my favorite local farm stands ove I visited one of my favorite local farm stands over the weekend. I thought I'd buy a couple zucchini and cantaloupe. But the zucchini looked more like clubs, and the cantaloupe was too ripe for my taste. So I passed on those and bought some tomatoes that maybe cost more than I would have preferred.

But you know what I didn't do? I didn't complain about the zucchinis' size. I didn't fuss about the melons' ripeness. I didn't criticize the tomatoes' price. Instead, I smiled at the lovely lady and made small talk as I paid and went about my day.

Why? Because I remember what it was like being out by the side of the road hot day after hot day. I know that we all poured everything we had into that produce. I remember how defeating it felt when some criticized it. I know that the price is probably around market value, even if it's cheaper in the grocery store. And I know that the farm family behind that cash register is giving everything they have to chase a dream.

I won't be the one to rain on their parade.
