Every year the American Farm Bureau Federation publishes the average price for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. This year the holiday meal will only cost a family $48.91. That’s only a penny more than last year.
The traditional meal, according to AFBF, includes turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and a couple pumpkin pies. If you’re like my family, your table probably has a few additional dishes. And that will obviously increase the total price spent. AFBF does calculate that adding a ham will increase the tab to $58.07.
But when you think about it, the traditional meal doesn’t actually cost that much. Americans enjoy some of the most affordable food in the world. And that allows us to spend additional money on those other holiday indulgences.
So when you sit down at your Thanksgiving table this year, I hope you’ll take a moment to appreciate just how affordable it is.
