I heard that prices in the grocery store are going up. Supply-chain disruptions, shortages, and higher input costs are to blame. The price of gas is also increasing quickly (I paid $2.99 last weekend). I know from personal experience that the price of lumber is skyrocketing (I bought two 6×6 posts for $70 each).
For what it’s worth, the price of farm inputs are going up too. USDA is projecting a 7 percent hike in fuel and oil expenses, 6 percent increases in fertilizer prices, and 4.6 percent higher labor costs. When you’re talking about thousands of dollars, those are huge increases. The sale price of corn and soybeans has gone up a little, but not necessarily enough to cover the additional costs (and the farm won’t realize the difference until year’s end anyway).
I’m not sharing this information to complain or make people feel sorry for us. I’m sharing to show that we’re feeling the pinch too. That what you’re seeing in the grocery store affects us too. With everything else going on, we’re all connected.
