Measure 3: ND’s Right to Food Choices

October 8, 2012

The North Dakota Farm Bureau is supporting Measure 3 that will appear on the North Dakota ballot in November.

The text of the proposed amendment is as follows:

“The right of farmers and ranchers to engage in modern farming and ranching practices shall be forever guaranteed in this state. No law shall be enacted which abridges the right of farmers and ranchers to employ agricultural technology, modern livestock production and ranching practices.”

How awesome is that? The goal of the amendment is to ensure that laws would not limit the technology or modern methods of farming available for farmers.

I haven’t broken out ND’s state constitution, but I doubt this would protect the state from future ballot initiatives from outside groups, such as the HSUS, that change the state’s constitution. However, this is certainly an awesome protection from ridiculous lawsuits and legislation that could limit farming practices.
