The first ever Olympian to be sponsored by a GMO crop has won gold in Rio!
Kristin Armstrong won her third straight gold medal while in Rio this week in cycling. Just a day before turning 43, and proving that age cannot not define our athletic ability, Kristin battled inclement weather to come out on top. Although always near the front of the pack, Kristin said she had a burst of energy that pushed her to victory at the end of the race.
Kristin made history before even getting to Rio though when she accepted a sponsorship from Simplot’s White Russet potato. The spud was genetically modified to reduce food waste and lower the levels of a cancer-causing agent when fried. Kristen proved to be a strong supporter of the potato and its sustainable features, even in the face of pressure by anti-GMO groups.

Congratulations, Kristin!
