In November, Professor Anne Glover stepped down as Chief Scientific Adviser to the European Commission. While some environmental groups claimed that she was sacked due to her stance on genetic engineering, Glover claims she stepped down because her position was dependent on former EC President José Manuel Barroso and was ended when he stepped down.
Nonetheless, Glover blasted anti-GMO groups, including Greenpeace, because they have lied to people about the evidence available regarding genetically engineered crops. The comments came in response to a letter allegedly signed by scientists suggesting that there was no consensus on GMO safety. Glover further stated that the anti-GMO position is nothing more than an ideological position and that there was consensus. She stated:
“If the commission were to decide to have another chief scientific adviser, it would be almost unimaginable that that person would hold views any different from mine. They would say the same as I do.”
(Source: RT.) I love that she was willing to stand up and straight up call these groups out on the fact that they’re not being truthful with people.
