Farm Living: Going to the County Fair

August 28, 2015

Last week I headed to the county fair to enjoy the sights and a little bit of fair food! Although we never participated in the fair as kids (sorry, we had no animals and it was our busy season), I recognize that it is an important thing, especially for animal agriculture! Not only do non-farms kids (and their parents) get the opportunity to see some country things, they also can get up close to the farm animals!

We particularly enjoyed walking among the antique tractor display. Again, the county fair is such a great opportunity to get people face to face with agriculture!20150821_193821edit I was sad to see this year that there were no birds at the fair. Of course, that isn’t entirely surprising given the outbreak of Avian Flu. It is highly contagious and destructive. While it was disappointing to see that they weren’t able to attend the fair this year, better safe than sorry. Perhaps it’s a small thing, but I think it speaks to the disruption that this illness has brought about.

I would love to experience a State fair once in my life! We don’t do that up here!

I’ve actually never been to the state fair – this was just our county fair. I’m sure it’s crazy fun though!
