Choosing the High Road

November 23, 2015

As you might imagine, I’ve gotten all sorts of nasty comments, rude remarks, and terrible things said about me and my family because of my blog. While I’d like to tell you that I’m perfect and never lose my temper, that would just be a lie.

But sometimes I think I get it right.

Yesterday morning I received a comment on my Facebook page by “B.” While something like this may have caused me to lose my cool, I managed to take a step back and think about my response. It’s very likely that “B” has only heard bad things about GMOs, farmers, and the like. Responding to her with anger wasn’t going to help, so I decided to take a different approach.

So, while I’m far from perfect, I am happy I responded positively to her post and invited her to discuss further. It can be so easy to lose our cool when someone says something about agriculture, which is so near and dear to us. If you find yourself in a similar situation, especially with family or friends (especially during the holidays), take a minute to step back and collect yourself before responding – you’ll be much happier that you did!

    Dear Amanda,
    Your reply was perfect!

I have sent messages to folks about my pet peeves (1) vaccines and (2) GMO’s. Unfortunately I have come to one conclusion: People hear what they want to hear, nothing more.

Nevertheless I will continue to try. Thanks for your posts Amanda, keep it coming. Thanks
    Roger

Good for you. It may be that she will see a new viewpoint. But probably not. Brain seems washed.
