Earlier this week I posted about General Mills’ attempt to appease anti-GMO advocates by slapping a label on their original Cheerios box indicating the cereal is free from any genetically modified ingredients.
Those same groups that pressured General Mills are also after Kellogg’s. They want the popular cereal brand to ban all genetically modified ingredients from their cereals as well. Petitions have been started and those anti-science fanatics are spamming Kellogg’s Facebook page as well.
However, unlike its competitor, Kellogg’s isn’t budging.
We understand consumers have questions and strong preferences about the foods they eat. For this reason, Kellogg offers a variety of Kashi and Stretch Island non-GMO foods for consumers who want this choice. Many influential regulatory agencies and organizations worldwide have confirmed GM ingredients are safe. They have been around for the past 20 years and are represented in the vast majority of the foods on U.S. grocery shelves and in other countries. We will continue to actively monitor the science, regulations and our consumers’ preferences on this topic. (Source: Battle Creek Inquirer)
Thankfully, it sounds like common sense and sound minds will prevail at Kellogg’s. No scientific study has ever shown that GMOs are dangerous to human beings or the environment. And biotechnology promotes efficient, safe, and environmentally-friendly agricultural practices.
Given that Kellogg’s is in my backyard, I take this one personally. And despite the spamming and threatening messages and ridiculous petitions, I’m thankful that Kellogg’s is standing on the side of US farmers. I sincerely hope they continue to do so.
I encourage you to visit Kellogg’s Facebook page and website and let them know that you appreciate their support of biotechnology as well.
